  • The Supply Chain That Binds Us

  • What is up with the supply chain and technology?

    Edited 2/13/2022

This is a quesiton we have been asked since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and are still answering those quesitons as well as dealing with the issue today. There are a lot of reasons and examples as to why the supply chain has been so strained and, in particular, why it affects technology. There are certifiable reasons from bad business decisions and bad political decisions over the past 30+ years. However, this notion that "this was a surprise" when anyone who has studied the export of US technologies and labor offshore would tell you, "No, in fact, this is not a surprise." We should not be shocked here, folks.

There is plenty of blame to go around both political parties including the American public's desire for inexpensive technology and needing it now, now, now. This has been a ticking timebomb waiting to go off and is a decades old problem. We certianly use and push technology every single day so the consumption of it is good for our business. Likewise, the lack of it hurts our business. We have lost deals and fought head to head with competitors to get hands on Chromebooks, web cameras, and even the long way to get a new vehicle have all been really difficult things to deal with for a few years now.

From our perspective, though things are getting "a little better" since the publishing of this article, there are still issues with inventories from manufacturers and in distribution channels. We are advising all clients to decide as early and order as early as possible on technology purchases.

We may do our own supply chain video in the future, but there are several good news and documentary sources we would encourage you to watch or read. Warning: Some of these videos may have course language as we add to the source material:
